- What does the software do?
- SQL Companion collects and presents data about the inner workings of a deployment of Microsoft SQL Server 2005, and helps find opportunities to fine-tune the performance of the DB server.
There are two components to the software: A back-end service that runs on the same machine as the SQL server; this service collects and analyzes data regarding the performance of the DB server; and A client piece that displays information regarding various aspects of the DB server.
- Who can benefit from SQL Companion?
- Database Administrators, Quality Assurance departments, benchmarking/stress-testing labs, small to medium-size companies who cannot afford a DBA but would like to be prepared when they hire external consultants, Very Large Databases, any large enterprise with heavily utilized databases
- Does your software work if the Production Servers use Windows 2003 Server, SQL Server 2005 64 bit using SSL Certificate?
- Yes, it does. If you want to enable SSL Certificates/Encryption you need to change the two options inside the MMC configuration files: "Encrypt Connection" = “1” (if you want SSL enabled)and "Trust Server Certificate"=”1” (if you trust self-signed/self-issued SQL Server Certificates; or “0” if you have third-party-CA signed certificates installed and configured on the SQL Server). We chose to disable them by default, following the default setting for “SQL Server Management Studio” wich is “unencrypted” connection.
- How much does the software cost?
The following introductory rates are offered until Feb 28th.

- Per Server Instance / Multi User license: $3,999
- 10 pack – per Server Instance / Multi User license = $34,999
- Yearly renewals: $999
- Consulting Agreements are available upon request The license can be obtained on-line or via e-mail. The license is good for a period of ONE YEAR. Consulting Agreements are also available, which include database design, code reviews, database tuning, and assistance with performance issues, capacity planning, upgrades, and general questions around using the software.
